I guess the theme of Dragana Ognjenovic’s Fall 2007 show was ‘Basic Black’ because the collection was basically all black. With the exception of a cream satin trench and brown wool dress, the 40+ piece collection consisted of pants, dresses, tops and jackets, all in black.
An all black collection is quite an ambitious affair. But Ognjenovic pulled it off. Her collection consisted of such a wide array of deliberately designed pieces that I momentarily disregarded the lack of color. My favorite pieces included the 42 Seam dress, the multitude of bubble skirts and dresses, and ruched, slanted seam jackets. Ognjenovic proved that black can be worn a variety of ways, and is a timeless color appropriate for all ages. Black is back.
